Place des Vosges was built in 1605 by King Henry IV of France in the ancient aristocratic quarter of Marais. It is still considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world with nine houses on each side built over arcades which are home to chic restaurants, antique shops, private art galleries and Le Pavillon de la Reine. A short walk away are Bastille Opera House, the Picasso Museum and the Left Bank. Set back from the square with a delightful flowering courtyard of its own, the hotel stands draped in cascades of ivy and hanging baskets. On entering, one can feel its sense of history.
