Charming Princeton is the hometown of a high-ranking university, one of the world's most famous. Albert Einstein, elucidator of the idea of relativity, worked here for a while. So have many other famous researchers, including at least five winners of the Nobel Prize for Physics. One of its handsome neo-classical buildings served, briefly, as the effective seat of government of the USA when The Continental Congress held its meetings in it in 1783.
Founded by British settlers in the territory of the native American Lenape, and named (probably) after William, Prince of Orange, the town of Princeton saw bloody history in the raw when George Washington won one of the decisive battles of the American Revolution here in 1777. Nowadays, it is more peaceful. Apart from the university, it is best known for housing upscale shops and Drumthwacket, the mansion of the Governor of New Jersey.
