Houari Boumediene International Airport (ALG) is the closest airport to Algiers. For more information on this airport and the airlines which operate from it, refer to our detailed Algiers Airport Guide.
Being a major port town, there are several ferry routes to Algiers from continental Europe including from Marseille in France and Alicante in Spain. Ferry schedules can vary quite drastically according to the season, so always check the schedule and book well ahead of your travel date.
Rail is an easy way to reach destinations within Algeria, but not great for traveling to its neighbouring countries. Trains leave from two main stations in Algiers, Gare Centrale and Gare de l’Agha, to Bejaia, Constantine, and Annaba in the east of Algeria, and Oran and Tlemcen in the West. Solo travel is not recommended however, and if travelling along is unavoidable, t is best to travel with pre-arranged group tours.
Those towns not reachable by train will almost certainly be reachable by long-distance bus. Buses for out-of-town leave from the Gare Routiere de Kharouba station in Algiers. Once you have reached the town or city to wish to travel to, a taxi is the best way to continue your journey to your final destination.
