Ideally situated within Torquay's premier tourist accommodation area of Belgravia, a short level walk to the beach. Near the Riviera conference centre (2 minute walk), town centre and beach: a warm welcome awaits guests, old and new.
The Newburgh is under new ownership, since October 2004, and has been open since January 2005. Located in a quiet road directly off of the Belgrave Road, at the seafront end, you will find the Newburgh nestled in amongst a short terrace of early Victorian properties. Approximately 280 metres from the beach via a reasonably level walk, approximately 90 metres from the Riviera centre and a few minutes more to the town and Torquay's fabulous harbour. Dartmoor and the beautiful South Devon coastline are there to be discovered, a few minutes drive away. The Newburgh previously benefited from the English Tourism Association Two Diamonds award. Now under new management, and having recently undergone a refurbishment, completed in January 2005, the English Tourism Association award has been re-applied for, and we have now been awarded 'a good' English Tourism Association Three Diamond award in February 2005, with a score of 64% (to obtain a three diamond rating you are required to reach a score of between 50-69%). ******** QUOTES DIRECT FROM OUR VISITORS BOOK ******** 'friendly and a lovely breakfast' Mr Mrs Ratcliffe, January 2005 'very homely, great atmosphere, highly recommended' Mrs Vaughan, February 2005 'very clean and comfortable room, food and hosts execellent, would certainly visit again' Mr Mrs Kidd, February 2005 'at last somewhere nice to rest your head, excellent, thank you' Mr Mrs Williams, March 2005 'great place, lovely people, will recommend' Miss Allen, March 2005 'home from home, many thanks, will recommend' Mr Mrs Choyce, March 2005 'all good things have to come to an end, great eggs Nigel!!, Mr Mrs Hickman, Easter 2005 'fantastic easter break, will definitely book later in the year, thanks to Lynne Nigel and Kathryn' Mr Mrs Clowes Easter 2005 *******************************************************************************SEE GUEST REVIEWS PAGE UNFORTUNATELY ACTIVE HOTELS DO NOT ALLOW HOTELIERS TO RESPOND TO GUEST REVIEWS WHERE APPROPRIATE. HERE ARE A FEW NON-CONFRONTATIONAL AND HOPEFULLY POSITIVE AND FAIR RESPONSES TO OUR REVIEWS FROM GUESTS WHO HAVE STAYED WITH US THROUGH ACTIVE HOTELS. WE HAVE DONE THIS BECAUSE WE CARE ABOUT WHAT OUR GUESTS THINK ABOUT US AND WANT TO ENSURE THAT YOUR STAY WITH US IS TO YOUR SATISFACTION, AND ALSO WE STRIVE TO IMPROVE OUR SERVICE TO YOU CONSTANTLY. WE USE YOUR COMMENTS TO IMPROVE OURSERVICE TO YOU. ALTHOUGH, OBVIOUSLY, DESPITE OUR EXHAUSTIVE EFFORTS THERE ARE OCCASIONS WHEN WE ARE NOT ABLE TO ACHIEVE OUR GOAL. Review Anonymous (Young couple) on 4th June 2005 The TV has been replaced, and the hotel has a new aerial and booster system. The TV receptions in all rooms are excellent. Review Anonymous on 19th August 2005, (young couple) This booking was made in our budget non en-suite double room. The TV has now been replaced. The shower was then and is now working perfectly, so puzzled by this comment, no mention at the time of this apparent problem. Review (Newport, UK,GB) on 28th September 2005 (mature couple) We operate a policy of turning down the beds, turning room lights on, drawing curtains, and making sure teas and coffees are stocked for our guests on an evening for their return. This is in addition to the daily cleaning of your room whilst you are out, and is to ensure that the room is warm and welcoming to you on your return to the guesthouse on an evening after your night out, this is purely done for our guests comfort. On this occasion we thought our guests were in fact out, we knocked twice to make sure, and having received no response entered the room, and can only assume that our guests were in fact in, although we do not recall this incident!! If this is the case, it was unfortunate, and we offer our apology to those concerned, although it was not mentioned as an issue at the time of their stay. We operate very much in the background, and our guests are not disturbed at all, and are afforded absolute privacy at all times. The room concerned is a larger than average double, containing a bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, 2 bedside cabinets, table and two chairs, with still plenty of room for our guests to move around. The en-suite is larger than average too, and the door separating it from the bedroom does afford privacy as it is almost from the ceiling to the floor, has a lock, and you cannot see in to the bathroom through the door, in addition to this, this room is let to couples only and not used as a twin where it may be more of an issue as far as privacy goes. Again, this was not mentioned as an issue at the time of the guest stay. You will see from our reviews that we constantly achieve an excellent rating of 8 out of 10 or more. ******************************************************************************* The Newburgh is a family run guesthouse which is clean, tastefully and comfortably decorated, offering you a friendly and warm welcome at all times.
