Bath Transportation
Bath is well served by rail and road. InterCity trains are the British equivalent of the high-speed / express train and operate between most major cities and destinations. Travel time from Bath to London is around an hour and a half. Fares vary considerably with destination, time and day of travel. It is advisable not to travel in peak hours as fares increase by as much as 50%. If you are travelling to a major city then it is best to reserve a seat for a small additional fee. There are numerous local networks, which provide access to smaller towns and more remote destinations.
Arriving by Air
Bristol International Airport is the closest airport to the city of Bath. However, Bath is easily acessible from the London airports as the two cities are just 90 minutes apart by train.
Arriving by Car
The M4 motorway serves Bath on its way from London to South Wales. If driving from London, take the M4 west as far as Junction 18. From Junction 18, the well-signed roads will direct the driver south to the city of Bath. If driving to Bath from the neighbouring city of Bristol, take the A4 in an easterly direction; this road passes right through the centre of Bath.
Getting Around Bath
Bath has a very compact city centre area, with all the attractions easily reached on foot. However, there is a frequent bus service to all corners of the city. Narrow streets can make driving in Bath chaotic during peak hours but is otherwise not overly difficult.
