For business meetings, both men and women wear suits. Casual clothes, including jeans, are acceptable for sightseeing and informal dining, but in the more exclusive restaurants and bars men will be expected to wear a jacket and tie. Generally, German women tend to dress up rather than down, so for social functions it is preferable to choose more formal clothing.

Banks are generally open weekdays from 08:30 to around 16:00, with some staying open as late as 18:00 on Thursday. Banks at airports and main train stations open as early as 06:30 and close as late as 22.30.
