Prague - Getting There

Arriving in Prague from Prague RuzynÄ› International Airport (PRG)

RuzynÄ› airport is situated about 20km (12.5 miles) northwest of Prague city, and is easily accessible by public bus or car. For more detailed information on how to get to this airport and its facilities, please see our Prague RuzynÄ› International Airport Guide.

Driving and Public Transport
If you plan on using your own car, there are several car hire desks at the airport and the R7 leads directly from the airport to the ciy. If you prefer to use public transport, there is a free Airport Express shuttle from the main Prague Train Station to the airport, as well as several public buses which connect the airport with several stops along Metro Line B, and one on Metro Line A.

Taxis
There are two official airport taxis companies, Radiocab taxi and AAA Radiotaxi. A fare from the airport to the city centre should cost in the region of CZK500 to CZK600.

Arriving in Prague by Rail

Travel Within Prague
Prague has over 20 direct rail links to major European cities using two international train stations, Hlavní Nádraží, the main station which is undergoing major renovations in 2010, close to Wenceslas Square, and Praha Holešovice, Prague 7, both with connections to metro Line C. Three other stations service trains from Moravia and Slovakia, south and east Bohemia. Rychlik trains are express regional trains connecting the larger Czech cities. All stations provide left-luggage lockers and international stations also have currency exchange facilities and tourist information offices.

The international European train service Eurocity travels from Prague to Berlin, Vienna and Budapest. An express train service, Super City Pendolino, runs to Ostrava in the east of the country, and to Bratislava in Slovakia and Vienna in Austria.

All stations have lockers and 24-hour left luggage facilities, while the international stations also have exchange facilities and tourist information services. Seat reservations are strongly recommended on all services.

Arriving in Prague by Road

If you intend driving a rental car into the Czech Republic, take note that some car hire companies in Germany and Austria will not permit their upper-range cars to be driven in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland.

Czechs drive on the right. The driving age is 18. Seat belts are mandatory. Drinking alcohol is prohibited. Headlights must be switched on. You will require an international driver’s licence, a receipt (green card) to prove you have compulsory third party insurance, and the registration book of the vehicle. A country sticker is required as is a warning triangle.

To drive on the highways a special highway sticker must be displayed on the inside right-hand side of the windshield. These are obtainable from fuel stations, at post offices and border posts. The speed limit on highways in 130km p/h, on main roads 90km p/h and in towns 50km p/h.

Arriving by Bus
There are many international bus companies that operate across Europe, including Eurolines, Cedok, Kingscourt Express, Bohemian Lines and Student Agency, all with offices in Prague. Most international buses depart from Florenc, the main bus terminal at Križíkova 8, on metro Lines B and C, or from the coach park at Želivského Station on metro Line A.

If travelling within the Czech Republic, buses tend to be faster than trains, not having to stop at stations along the route.
