Mauritius International Airport (SSR): General Information

Mauritius Airport, formally known as Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (SSR) is situated 45km southeast of Port Louis at Plaisance. The one terminal consists of three floors: Departures on the first floor, Arrivals on the ground floor with a baggage reclaim hall in the basement. It has a car park for 600 vehicles.

Car Rental

The main car rental companies have desks in the Tour Operators’ Hall on the first floor of Arrivals. A valid driver’s licence must be produced. Inform the car rental company of when you will be returning the vehicle as you are required to leave it in a dedicated car park where a representative of the rental company will meet you to receive the keys.

Mauritius International Airport (SSR): Facilities

Three banks situated at the Arrivals exit and Departures check-in area. Foreign currency can be exchanged at the banks and bureaux de change (Shibani Finance and Thomas Cook). ATMs are outside the Arrivals Hall.

A post office is located in the Welcomers’ Hall at Arrivals is open Mon-Fri 0900-1530; Sat 0900-1130. An Information Desk is near the Arrivals exit and lost baggage counter in the baggage reclaim hall. A 24-hour First Aid post at the Arrivals exit near the water feature, and an ambulance service is also available.

Duty-free and other shops can be found in the Arrivals and Departures Halls, as well as restaurants and bars.

Tourist Information Counter in the Arrivals Hall on the first floor where passengers can book accommodation and tours as well as at the l’Association des Hotels de Charme in the Tour Operators’ hall.

Disabled Facilities

Access to aircraft is across aerobridges. Wheelchairs are available on request.

Business Facilities

There are two business lounges operated by the Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd.

The Terrasse is a sophisticated departure lounge for VIP passengers offering telephones (local calls free), Internet connection, computers and colour printers, fax and photocopy machines, writing desks, newspapers and magazines, and a coffee/snack bar.

An Arrival Premium Lounge in the Arrivals baggage reclaim hall offers a bathroom/toilet, newspapers and magazines, and a snack bar.

Additional services provided for executives (for which a charge is made) include being met at the doorstep of the plane, a fast-track immigration process with customs formalities taking place in the lounge, and baggage collection. You are required to make a booking for this service by telephone, fax or e-mail at least 24 hours before you depart for Mauritius.
