Ile Maurice - Notes and Coins

Mauritian Rupee (Rs) divided into 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of Rs25, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000 and 2,000. US Dollars and Euros are accepted at the resorts.

Currency Exchange

Foreign currency, particularly US Dollars and Euros, can be exchanged at banks, bureaux de change and at major hotels.

Rupees can only be exchanged back into foreign currency at the airport bank where you will need to produce receipts of currency exchanges.

Banking hours: Mon-Thur/Fri 0915-1515/1530; Sat 0915-1115 (some banks only). Banks at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport are open on arrivals and departures of international flights.

ATMs are widespread, accepting Visa, MasterCard and others on Cirrus and Plus networks.

Credit Cards

Most hotels, restaurants, tourist shops and car rental companies take major credit cards.
