Tanzania has three international airports at Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro (Arusha) and Stone Town in Zanzibar. Tanzania no longer has a national airline. From Nairobi there are daily connections to Dar es Salaam on other international airlines.
Airlines that fly to Tanzania include KLM, Swiss International Airlines, Air India, British Airways, Egypt Air, Ethiopian Airlines, Gulf Air, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Oman Air, Turkish Airlines, Kenya Airways, Uganda Airline, Air Malawi, Air Zambia, South African Airways.
Precision Air, Coastal Aviation and new (April 2011) Auric Air are based at Julius Nyerere International Airport situated at Kibaha, 13km southwest of Dar es Salaam’s CBD. Terminal 1 handles domestic and chartered flights, while Terminal 2 caters for international and regional flights. There is also a cargo terminal. An expansion programme with the Chinese to build another terminal and runway is still on the cards.
Car Rental
Tanzania Rent-a-Car and Avis have desks in the Arrivals Hall of T2. Other rental companies are based in the city. Hotels will organise car-hire for guests. A valid driver’s licence is required. Most car rental companies do not allow their cars to be taken out of Dar es Salaam.

Both Terminals have car parks. Free parking is available at T1 and at the Freight Terminal. T2 offers short-term parking, paid in cash.

Airport Business Facilities
There is a Conference Room in the International Terminal and a business lounge offering secretarial services. Note that the airport is a smoke-free zone.
Airport Shuttles
Large shuttle vans are the most economical way of getting into Dar es Salaam. They also provide a pick-up service from your hotel or office to/from the airport. It is possible to reserve a door-to-door private shuttle van or luxury vehicle. Most hotels offer their own shuttle services to and from the airport.
Taxis
The taxi rank is outside the Arrivals Halls. Negotiate a price before getting into an airport taxi as you may be offered a ‘tourist price’. Taxis are not metered and drivers are not affiliated to any formal taxi company, but they are regulated by government. They have white licence plates and their taxi numbers are displayed on the side.
Bus
Public buses run from the airport to the city every 15 minutes. The bus stop is a 5-minute walk from the terminals.
