The city of Verona has captured the hearts of artists, musicians and lovers the world over since William Shakespeare chose it as the setting for his most beloved tradgedy, Romeo and Juliet.

In fact, hundreds of years before Shakespeare had even begun writing, the Romans settled in Verona, building numerous villas, an ampitheatre and monuments, the ruins of which are still visible today. Verona was also once dominated by Venetians and by Austrians, hence the city is a rich blend of architectural styles. Its many museums and galleries also house works by some of the Italian masters, and its narrow cobbled roads and picturesque buildings still make it a great source of inspiration for painters and photographers.

The city is a gateway to the surrounding landscape of mountains and lakes, including the breathtaking Lake Garda, and offers endless oppourtunities for hiking and cycling adventures. It is also possible to visit Venice as a day-trip, with the train journey taking under two hours and reaching Venice station directly.
