Mahé - Currency
ATMs are available in many parts of Mahé - ensure you inform your bank before travelling abroad, and be aware you may be charged for cash withdrawals. Currency Information
Seychelles Rupee (SCR), divided into 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of SCR500, SCR100, SCR50, SCR25 and SCR10.
Currency Exchange
Foreign exchange is required for the settlement of hotel, guesthouse, lodge and self-catering accommodation, car hire, boat charters, entrance to national parks, and for leisure activities such as scuba diving. Major currencies are accepted. Taxi fares and restaurant bills can be settled in rupees or foreign currency, except for hotel restaurants.
Foreign currency can be exchanged for rupees at banks, the airport and hotels but can only be used in local shops, markets and bars. You will need to present the receipt for the original exchange transaction on departure in order to convert rupees back into foreign currency.
Banks
Banking hours: Mon-Fri 08.30-14.00, Sat 09.00-11.00.
Foreign banks have branches in Seychelles. The Government owns the two local banks, the Development Bank of Seychelles and the Seychelles Savings Bank. There are six banks in Victoria. Banks with ATMs are found on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. Note that airport banks open for some flights only.
Credit Cards
All major credit cards can be used for payment of any service throughout the Seychelles.
