Entertainment on the Seychelles Islands

Hotels arrange their own entertainment that includes cocktails on the beach, sega dancers, singers and music.

A favourite nightclub, Katiolo’s, in Anse Faure between the airport and Anse Royale, has a dress code in that beachwear is not acceptable.

Mahé has two casinos: Berjaya International Casino at Beau Vallon and Planters’ Casino at Baie Lazare. Praslin’s Casino des Iles is at Côte d’Or.

Deepam is the sole cinema in Albert Street, Victoria.

When to Go - Annual Events

February

Kavadi Thaipoosum is a Hindu religious annual event from 1-29 February to honour Lord Murugan, the warrior god. Milk in small pots is offered to the deity in return for his blessings. The venue is the Hindu Temple in Victoria.

March

Fête de la Francophonie features exhibitions, debates, film shows, French cheese and wine evenings and a craft bazaar held at various locations on Mahé, with some events on Praslin and La Digue, between 13-31 March.

Carnaval International de Victoria will, for the first time, bring together representatives of the world’s most famous carnivals. Processions of colourful floats will represent the participating nations’ carnivals. The festival will run for three days from 2-4 March at various locations on Mahé.

April

Atlas Seychelles Charity Fishing Tournament, another trolling competition, will be held from 30-31 March at Marine Charter, Victoria, with prizes being awarded. Contact Marine Charter Association (Tel: +248 51 34 75).

May

FetAfrik is a festival of local and regional artists, musicians and dancers celebrating Africa Day at different locations on Mahé on 25 May.

August

Feast of the Assumption of Mary is celebrated on La Digue. Locals from the other islands descend on La Digue on 15 August.

South East Monsoon Sailfish Tournament is a 1-day trolling competition from 05.00-17.00 on 27 August. Contact Marine Charter Association (Tel: +248 51 34 75).

September

Ganesh Chaturthi is a religious Hindu celebration of the birth of legendary Lord Ganesh, the god of wisdom or the elephant god. It takes place in the Hindu Temple in Victoria on 1 September.

World Tourism Day is held on 27 September on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue.

October

La Digue Offshore Tournament is a one-day fishing competition, including bottom fishing and trolling, for which prizes will be awarded. It takes place on 8 October off La Digue.

Festival Kreol takes place at various venues on Mahé in a weeklong celebration of all things Kreol. It’s the most important cultural event of the year. Enjoy the tastes, colours, music, and fragrances of island life. The festival runs from 25-31 October.

Diwali is the Hindu Festival of Lights when the goddess Lakshmi bestows her blessings on her worshippers. The celebration takes place at the Sports Complex, Roche Caiman, on 26 October.

November

SUBIOS is an annual underwater film festival on Mahé to promote marine-based tourism and to educate the locals on the importance of the marine environment. It involves diving and snorkelling, photographic competitions, films, video and slide presentations by guest and local speakers. It runs from 4-6 November.

Marine Charter Association Marlin Tournament is a one-day trolling-only event off Mahé from 03.00-17.00 on 26 November. There are cash prizes for each category of fish and for the Best Team and Runners-Up. The registration fee is SCR 1,000 per boat plus SCR 500 pp. Contact Marine Charter Association (Tel: +248 51 34 75).
